Chris Marsh—Vocational

Chris was introduced by RobertHolloway who described Chris as thesort of bloke who called “a spade abloody shovel” and who had anencyclopedic knowledge of Kings &Queens.

Chris told us that he was born on 3rdFeb 1952. He has two sisters and wasraised in Caringbah NSW - a shire that isnow very affluent although it was notthat way when Chris was young.Chris did not enjoy school and left at 14when he says he was bi-lingual illiterate(could not read either French orGerman).

Life got better as he got olderand Chris bought his first motorbike in1969 (a Norton). He raced the bike atOran Park with mixed results. He stillhas the same bike and it is in pristinecondition.After moving to Perth in 1976 he went toa party with Robert Holloway where hemet his wife - Sue. He has been marriedfor 31 years although says “I’m stillconsidered a work in progress”.

Chris &Sue have two children (Erin & David).Chris gave us some family backgroundwhich has some very early Australiancolonial connections. On his mothersside he can trace his family back to asurgeon who came out with the 1st Fleet.On his fathers side his ancestors include acousin of Lachlan Macquarie - the 5thGovernor of NSW. Chris’s working life has included abricklaying apprenticeship and operatinghis own building company whichconstructed over 200 houses. His 2 maincustomers were Armaguard & Abe Saffron.

In Perth he has worked for Jaxon Homesand then BGC (for Len Buckridge).He made many appearances before theBuilding Disputes Tribunal on behalf ofBGC. He claims to have done so well thatthe tribunal eventually offered him aposition on the Board and he is now aregular member of the panel.Chris now works for Plunkett Homes.Chris said that his building industryexperience held him in good stead for ascuba dive with the sharks.He is now building a new home for he &Sue and enjoys his two pets - Molly thecocker spaniel and Misty - a 19yo cat.His recent holidays have included a canalboat cruise in France.
