Cody Sheridan was an Outbound student in Brazil during 2006. She returned home in January and sent an email message last week saying that she “just wanted to let you know that I really appreciated all your help while I was on exchange” and attached the following letter to the Club “To Heirisson Rotary Club of My apologies in taking so long to send and write this letter. Last year I was an exchange student traveling to Brasil settling into the town of Londrina. I stayed with three families during the year. First Family: Flavio & Christina Vinholo who I lived with for 9 months. Second Family: Muruska & Vera where I stayed for the short time of 1 month. Third Family Sandro& Christina who I completed the year with and traveled with. I found the experience living with the three above families a very rewarding experience especially with the Vinholo family who welcome me into their home with open arms. They were a very generous family who I still keep in contact with and hope I will for ever. I discovered so many different things such as the different living style, their food, the housing, and school. Learning the Portuguese language was hard to start with but after a while you get the hang of it and you then feel like you belong and that was a great feeling. Being in Brasil for the soccer world cup was an experience I will never forget, being from Australia we were teased a bit but all in fun. I have taken away many memories & life experiences that can never be repeated by being an exchange student and representing Australia. A couple of occasions that were very fulfilling for me was the 10 day Amazon trip, where I slept in the jungle, met people, sail on the river and went fishing for anacondas. Another occasion was traveling to Argentina and Paraguay with a Rotarian from our district. I remember we stood in Argentina and you could see 3 countries it was amazing to see. I spent new years on the beach with my last host family and this is something I won’t forget ever. A trip to the beach with 10 other exchange students were we all go to know each other better it was such an experience. So many tales, good times and meeting other exchange students was such a highlight of the trip. I have included some photos too show how good of a time I had. 2006 in Brasil would not have been possible without the sponsorship I gained from the club.
