Rotary needs YOU!

Rotarians are busy people, just like you, with a purpose to help others, have fun and enjoy their Rotary involvement. Rotary clubs are open to men and women of all ages, who are of good character and standing in business, the professions and the community. We value diversity in our membership. It brings the widest range of interests, skills and backgrounds to our Club.

Membership Selection

Our Constitution and Rotary International rules outline a thorough membership selection process, but the primary emphasis is on the prospective member's commitment to the Object of Rotary, and the Vision, Mission and Values of our Club.

Prospective members are invited to attend regular meetings of the club, and involve themselves in projects, activities and events.  Where club members receive potential members favourably,  potential members will be provided with a comprehensive application and invited to express interest in membership.  The selection process is thorough, involving:

  • assessment by the Club Service directorate's Membership team (usually incoming or past Presidents), including general research and referee input;

  • review of the Membership team's recommendation by the full board;

  • notification of all existing members; and

  • final nomination for membership, after club input, by board endorsement.

Membership is never taken lightly, and should never be taken for granted.

Member Induction

On induction, when the new member's spouse and family are invited, the new member is charged with upholding the Object of Rotary and the ethical values of a Rotarian.

Each member holds a particular classification relating to their vocation.  We are all tasked with keeping the club updated about that vocation, and applying the principles of Rotary in our work, and all our other activities.

Participation is vital to active, successful membership.  Members must regularly attend weekly club and monthly directorate meetings, unless make ups are made at other Clubs or leave of absence is granted.

After induction, the President presents the new member with their Rotary lapel pin, and copies of the Object of Rotary and the Four Way Test, and other information.  New members are allocated to a service directorate, as part of their ongoing orientation as a Rotarian, and welcomes into the club.

Ongoing Orientation and Development

After a time, in which new members become more familiar with the club, they are invited to give a "vocational talk", outlining their personal, family and professional background. This helps the whole club understand the interests, motivations, skills and experience of its members.

As members become more familiar with the club's activities they can assume greater responsibility for particular projects that interest them, and even recommend new projects for attention.  All members share in the responsibility for inviting suitable women and men to join Rotary and become involved in its activities.

As the keyway in the Rotary wheel symbolises, we are a working club.  Each member takes responsibility for their service to our community, their vocation, our Club, and humanity across the globe.
